🏥 Your Gift in Action: Restoring Health
Meet Jhonsley. Earlier this year, he began experiencing severe groin pain that required an urgent trip to the emergency room.
Initially, he was treated with a Diclofenac injection, but further evaluation by hospital physicians and SHH’s medical team revealed that he had hydrocele, an incarcerated inguinal hernia, and an undescended testicle — all conditions that required immediate attention.
Jhonsley received a course of Metronidazole, Amoxicillin, and additional pain-relief medications. He then underwent two critical surgeries: one to repair the hernia and another to locate and save the affected testicle. Thanks to this timely medical intervention, Jhonsley is now healthy, active, and recovering well. Without treatment, these conditions could have led to long-term complications, including infertility or even cancer risk.
He will require a follow-up ultrasound in the coming months to ensure everything continues to heal properly, but thanks to your support, Jhonsley’s quality of life has dramatically improved.
💪 Your Gift in Action: Empowering Futures
Meet Charles. Charles came to the orphanage at age 16 after the loss of his mother — a heartbreaking moment that left him feeling alone and unsure of his future. Adjusting to life in the home wasn’t easy, and he often struggled with sadness and uncertainty about what his life could become.
With the support and encouragement of the orphanage staff, Charles slowly began to rebuild his confidence. He took on small but important responsibilities — caring for the chickens, ducks, and goats; maintaining the water tank; and assisting technicians during repairs or installations. These experiences helped him discover his strengths and regain a sense of purpose.
Everything changed when Charles joined the KCH STARS program, supported by SHH. Through this program, he gained exposure to new opportunities and developed essential life skills: personal growth, setting healthy boundaries, public speaking, discipline, and goal-setting. The program opened his eyes to what was possible.
Today, inspired by the mentorship and motivation he received, Charles wants to pursue his dream of becoming an electrician. He has already gained hands-on experience and discovered a true passion for the field. Now, he will continue pursuing this field through the STARS program — and your support can help him get there.
📘 Your Gift in Action: Fulfilling Dreams
Meet Jodalienne. Jodalienne, a 24-year-old third-year medical student, entered the Montesinos Foundation at age 11 after experiencing abandonment by her mother and ultimately homelessness. Though she arrived far behind academically, she quickly excelled; completing multiple grade levels in a year, consistently ranking first in her classes, and eventually earning her Haitian state diploma at age 20.
Driven by a deep desire to help others, she pursued her dream of studying medicine. During her first year of medical school, she faced an unplanned pregnancy and chose to continue both her studies and her responsibility as a mother. Today, she raises her two-year-old daughter while working at the orphanage as a nurse and attending university full-time.
Support from SHH and the Foundation has been essential – providing stability, encouragement, and the resources she needs to keep moving forward. Her work with the children now serves as a meaningful bridge between her past and her future in healthcare.
Jodalienne shares her heartfelt gratitude with all sponsors and partners who have stood by her. She hopes one day to return as a doctor to serve the community that shaped her. Your continued support ensures that more young people like Jodalienne have the chance to rise, thrive, and fulfill their dreams.
